8 Aug, 2017 – HiMama, a company that connects hundreds of thousands of working parents with their children in preschool and early childhood education programs, supports dual-lingual families with the release of Spanish and French versions of their app.
HiMama is a leading technology provider in the early learning sector and is currently being used widely across North America and in over 30 countries globally. The company is a social enterprise that supports child care organizations in improving family engagement for better early childhood learning and development outcomes.
“As a technology company, we are committed to supporting early childhood educators and families,” says Ron Spreeuwenberg, CEO of HiMama. “From conversations with the organizations that we work with, we realized that there was a need for Spanish and French language support for child care programs to better service dual-language families.”
Apart from French and Spanish capabilities, the company supports the child care and early learning sector with resources through thought leadership. In a recent interview on The Preschool Podcast with Karen Nemeth, founder of Language Castle, HiMama discussed the science behind language development and its importance at an early years level. The company has also sparked discussion around diversity in the preschool classroom.
“Many educators in the field work with dual-language learners on a daily basis,” says Steven Bonnay, Registered Early Childhood Educator and Community Advisor at HiMama. “I think what is missing from the conversation is the lack of preparation and resources to build relationships with families where there is a language barrier. From my own experience, some parents who are not native English speakers can feel alienated and disconnected from the learning that their children are going through on a daily basis. Providing non-native English speakers with access to this information in their native language is a game changer for teachers and parents.”
Both French and Spanish versions of the HiMama app are now available.
