Since the release of iOS 11.2, Apple’s iPhone8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X come with wireless charging. For years, many Android users have had the ability to simply place their phone on a pad to juice it up, but to do that with an iPhone used to require a Qi-compatible case.
Wireless charging isn’t always a great substitute for plugging in, but it’s a very convenient way to charge your phone in some occasions. A wireless charger on your desk means no more plugging and unplugging throughout the day and a full charge when you head home from work. A wireless charger next to your bed makes it easy to grab and go in the morning, or just pick up your phone to “check one thing” without fussing with the lightning cable.
We went through and tested over a dozen wireless Qi charging pads on Amazon, ranging from well known charging company like Anker and SamSung to some obscure brands, like PeohZarr. Most wireless chargers more or less do their charging job, but not all chargers are made equal, and things like form factor, materials, size, and of course, how fast it can actually charge your phone are all things to consider. In this article, we pick out some popular products on Amazon.
1. Anker $25.99
Pros: It has portable size and can disappear into a bag without even noticing. It supports charging speeds up to 10 watts on compatible phones. We like the ring of blue LED lights that “breathe” for about 10 seconds before turning off, to let you know a charging connection has been made. We like the size and the grippy top that your phone won’t slide around on.
Cons: The price is much higher than others. Can not support 7.5W charging for iPhone. Temperature rises when it works for hours.
2. SamSung $22.93
Pros: Well-Known brand. The design is like a cookie, but it’s unobtrusive and highly functional. There’s a nice wide rubberized ring around the top to rest your phone on and prevent sliding or scraping.
Cons: Can not support 10W/7.5W fast wireless charging.
3. PeohZarr $19.99
Pros: The unique shape and the breathing LED light caught my eye at first glance. It’s a good size, thin, with double-sided rubber ring that prevents slipping. It’s easy to drop your iPhone on it and get a good charging connection without thinking about it. And it supports 7.5W charging, too. My phone and the charger stay cold when charging. It provides customer with 3-year warranty.
Cons: It has a small glossy area where is prone to leave my fingerprints.
4. RAVPower $14.99
Pros: The price is inexpensive at around $15. The blue LED indicator is Sleep friendly. We like the double-sided anti-slip rubber band. It does the job for most of the time. A great bargain.
Cons: This pad only charges iPhones at a 5W rate, and other quick-charge Qi enabled devices up to 10 watts (if you use the right power adapter). It’s heavy and thick. Sometimes it disconnects and reconnects constantly.
5. Ivolks $21.95
Pros: It does the job well. We like the aluminum alloy metal body and curved led indicator. Maybe the thinnest wireless charger I’ve seen. The temperature control is good in spite of its metal body.
Cons: It doesn’t have anti-slip rubber band and my phone easily slips around. Can not support 7.5W charging.
Are you not interested in a charger listed here? That’s not surprising, while we try to cover the most popular brands, there are literally hundreds of wireless chargers on the market. We can still help make sure you get a product you’re happy with, though.
