On August 12th, the world’s very first Acupuncture – moxibustion Weight-losing Competition officially opened in Qujiang, China, the home of the famous acupuncturist Yang Jizhou.
100 contestants from around the world gathered here to fulfill their weight-losing dream.
Numerous media press members such as Xinhua Net, the People’s Daily, China Central Television, Zhejiang TV also attended the event.

A NEW DISCOVERY IN WEIGHT-LOSING SHOWS
Weight-losing shows are not new against the audience. Examples include THE BIGGEST LOSER franchise. But this competition, titled “the Yang Jizhou Cup Acupuncture-Moxibustion Weight-Losing Competition” sets a new example towards its peers, as it’s the first weight-losing competition using Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion as its key methodology.
The competition was held by China Association for Acupuncture and Moxibustion (CAAM) and the People’s Government of Qujiang District, Quzhou. Production Company Keystone Culture co-held and produced the competition. The competition earned technical support from the CAAM, as well as administrational support from the local government and other organizations.
Hundreds of people applied for the competition since the call went out in July. A final group of 100 contestants were chosen based on telephone interviews and body evaluations i.e. age, weight, BMI.

A GRAND OPENING
All 100 contestants attended the comptetion’s launching ceremony. Other guests attending the ceremony include:
Liu Baoyan, head of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) and vice-president of the CAAM;
Zhu Bing, Program 973 scientist; Yu Xiaochun, vice-president and Press Secretary of the CAAM;
Fang Jianqiao, vice-president of the CAAM;
Shu Fumin, head and chief editor of INSIGHT CHINA;
Wang Liangchun, deputy mayor of the People’s Government of Quzhou;
Wu Jiangping, vice-president of the Political Consultative Conference of Quzhou, secretary of commission of Qujiang District of Quzhou;
Zhu Sufang, deputy secretary of commission of Qujiang District of Quzhou deputy head of Qujiang District;
Zhang Juncheng, director of the competition and film HOLY LAND OF ACUPUNCTURE.
The contestants and the guests are welcomed by a specially-designed ceremony combining various performances showing the beauty of Qujiang and Chinese acupuncture. Yan Wei, champion of the Chinese “Tai Chi dance”, performed a traditional dance introducing the interesting facts of how acupuncture can help reduce weight. Zhang Kai, and web celebrity Ms. Miao, performed with one of the contestants showing their determination to succeed in the competition. The ceremony was brought to a height when all 100 contestants went on stage and made a heartening vow to open a new life.

AN INTERCULTURAL, INTERDISCILINARY METHODOLOGY
The production team of the famous weight-losing reality show CHANGING MY LIFE involved in the competition. What makes this new competition different is that it uses Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion as its key methodology. The methodology combines body exercise, a weight-losing cuisine using fresh local ingredients and a mind therapy course. Leading acupuncturists and nutritionists offer support in the methodology. The methodology is aimed not only to let contestants lost weight, but to fully improve their life, and bring their life quality to a higher level.

The competition is a key element in Qujiang District’s campaign in promoting its reputation as “Home of the acupuncture master, Holy land of acupuncture”.
“This competition has been in development for a long time, now that it is open, we will introduce Qujiang to the whole world with a brand new form using this brand new media,”says Wu Jiangping, vice-president of the Political Consultative Conference of Quzhou, secretary of commission of Qujiang District of Quzhou.
Since the film HOME OF THE ACUPUNCTURE MASTER, Qujiang has been working hard on introducing its rich resources, both natural and cultural, to the entire world through telling the stories of Yang Jizhou and Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion. Their effort earned appreciation from experts around the world.

“Qujiang knows its position well, and grabs the opportunity that Chinese medicine is developing fast, using its cultural resource as ‘Home of the Acupuncture Master’,” says Liu Baoyan, head of the WFAS and vice-president of the CAAM.
The competition gives out a signal that traditional Chinese cultural heritages such as acupuncture and moxibustion will be introduced in a much friendlier and appealing way. Keystone Culture Group has been working hard on promoting acupuncture and moxibustion as world heritage. As director Zhang Juncheng states, the world-wide promotion of “beautiful acupuncture” requires a creative mind, and a new way of media communication, so that more people can learn about acupuncture and moxibustion and see its new life with the help of the internet era.
